When you begin your search remember that you are looking for the RIGHT used car lot dealer to buy from. Here are some questions you should ask:
Do You Have Newer / Lower Mileage Used Cars? Used car dealers have many more purchase options when they are buying cars for their lots. With so many 'new car trade-ins' and lease cars coming back to new car dealers, they SHOULD be focused on providing their customers better cars with lower miles. At our dealership most of our cars are no older than 2005 models - or 6 years old. We've found these vehicles give the buyer a better vehicle that will last longer and require less maintenance.
Can I See a CarFax? How Do You Evaluate Cars You Purchase For Your Lot? A reputable dealer should always pull a CarFax vehicle history report on the cars they purchase for their lots. The dealer, like you, is looking for a quality vehicle that has no major accident history, been flooded or totaled in a car wreck. You'd be surprised at how many cars are presented as 'clean' but then turn out to have history issues.
We get a CarFax on every vehicle we sell. Our cars also go through an extensive 21-point vehicle inspection. Both of those together are what compels us to purchase the car for our lot and to ultimately be purchased by one of our customers.
Do You Make Your Used Car Financing Decisions On Site? This is important in that each car buyer has a different financial situation and need. A used car dealer that makes their financing decisions on site can take into account your unique situation and taylor a financing program for you.
Is There A Good Warranty With the Car I Purchase? In our case we provide a 24-month 24,000 mile warranty. You should expect something similar from the dealer you purchase from. The warranty should include all MAJOR components of the engine and drive-train.
Other things to look for:
- FREE Oil Changes for the Life of the Warranty. We offer this but also have an ASE-Certified Service Department on site. Hey, it never hurts to ask right?
- Roadside Assistance. What happens if you get stranded? A good dealer will provide you access to assistance should you get need help out on the road.
- FREE Loaner Program. When your car is in for repair and you need a vehicle, will the dealer provide you with a loaner? We do and you should expect the same.
- Car Service Financing. Not many dealers offer this to their customers because most don't have a service facility on site. However, we offer this to our customers as a way of helping when a repair is needed and cash is short.
